Swindon Town 2 Brentford 1: BRENTFORD skipper Michael Dobson, gutted by last Saturday's defeat at Swindon, says that only a victory will be good enough against Stockport County at Griffin Park this Saturday if the Bees are to get out of the Second Division relegation zone.
He declares: "We've got to go out with the same attitude and this time get all three points. I won't have to say anything to the lads - they'll all be fired up" (a full interview with Dobson appears on the Bees World website).
Defeat by Swindon saw Brentford drop into the relegation places for the first time this season and they are now third from bottom with 34 points after failing to win their last six matches and gaining only one win in their last 18. It left them one point below Notts County and two adrift of Peterborough in 20th place.
Other results couldn't have gone worse for Wally Downes' team last weekend as fellow strugglers Chesterfield, Peterborough and next-to-bottom Stockport all won, with Stockport gaining an impressive 2-0 victory over second-placed Bristol City. And Oldham and Notts County picked up a point each.
But manager Downes insisted: "We've lost by the odd goal against two of the league's better sides in Brighton and Swindon - I'm disappointed, but encouraged."
Sammy Igoe sent the Bees crashing to their fourth successive defeat by grabbing an 82nd minute winner.
Downes had dropped Tommy Wright and Andrew Frampton in favouring a 4-5-1 formation, but Brentford fell behind in the 13th minute. A foul by Ronnie Bull proved costly, as Brian Howard free-kick was touched on by Tommy Mooney for Andy Gurney to fire home.
Ben May, operating on his own up front, conjured up an equaliser in the 30th minute, blasting in a left-footed shot from Kevin O'Connor's pass.
Stuart Nelson, again preferred in goal to Alan Julian, saved smartly from substitute Rory Fallon before Swindon scored the winner.
Bull was again at fault, heading Mooney's long ball only to the edge of the penalty area where Igoe volleyed past the unsighted Nelson.
Brentford: Nelson; Dobson, Somner, Sonko, Bull; O'Connor, Hutchinson (Wright, 83mins), Talbot (Rougier, 77mins), Evans, Tabb; May. Subs not used: Julian, Frampton, Hughes.
* Swindon midfielder Brian Howard accused Brentford of "using every trick in the book" on Saturday and a report made accusations that the Bees had been guilty of spitting and kicking.
But after Wally Downes had asked Swindon manager Andy King to look into it, the claims were withdrawn.
