It haS been a bumper year for Teddington Swimming Club as they achieved results which rank as probably the best in their history, and the club can now boast of a fine junior membership of around 400, alongside 100 active masters swimmers.

The year started well with a victory in a gala at Woking and this was followed by solid performances at Dorking and Feltham.

As usual in the early part of the year, the training was geared towards the Middlesex County Champ-ionships and the swimmers provided more medals than ever before. Gina Heyn was in excellent form winning three gold, four silver and two bronze medals, while John Whatley took a gold, three silver and a bronze.

Overall Teddington collected four gold, nine silver and nine bronze medals with 33 finalists, and recorded over 100 personal best times.

More glory was to come at the Middlesex Develop-ment meeting as 15-year-old Alice Melotte picked up three gold, a silver and a bronze. Gold medals were also won by Florence Reavie-Corker and Scott Jermy, and three bronze medals went to Declan Lawlor.

Gina Heyn and John Whatley were also awarded the County colours as they represented Middlesex at the National Inter-counties Championships.

In April the Club held its Inter-house Championships and the trophy winners were Sarah Perkins and Lili Reavie-Corker.

The year continued well and further gala victories followed at Leighton Buzzard and Acton and for the first time the junior swimmers qualified for the final gala of the MK Junior League where they finished fifth overall.

The nine-year-old swimmers were in action for the first time at the Bracknell and Wokingham Graded Gala in May and came home with medals galore. The Boys A' team of Oliver Lawson, James Pagan, Alex Wood, and Ryota Ohta won the 4x1 medley relay, while the Boys B' team of Kristopher Blake, Connor McEllin, James Stone and Killian O'Brien won silver in the freestyle race and bronze in the medley event.

As for the girls, the A' team of Cecilia Long, Emily Read, Katherine Melotte, and Hannah Wilson won silver in the medley race and bronze in the freestyle, and the B' Team of Charlotte Owens, Amy Barnett, Anna Marshall, and Dominique Walcot came fifth in both freestyle and medley races.

The club's annual Novice Championships were held in June for swimmers who had never won medals before and the winners were Hannah Wilson, Lili Reavie-Corker, Louise Hearsum, Chloe Mills, Edward Hale, James Foster, and Alexander Barley.

In the summer swimmers entered open water events in the Solent and on the Isle of Wight. Medals were won by Adam Acland, Sarah Martin, Andrew Earland, David Curant, Daniel Jermy, Sam Maloney- Cox and Nerys Williams.

The autumn saw the visit of Crawley, Seabyrds Hillingdon, Ruislip, and Westminster, to Teddington Pool for the Challenge Gala. This turned out to be one of the most exciting galas ever held at the pool.

Everything came down to the last event and anyone of three teams could win the trophy. Eventually Teddington and Crawley shared the points with Seabyrds agonizingly one point behind.

The year closed with a busy period that included the Club Championships held at Teddington Pool and also three rounds of the National Speedo League.

Star Performer at the Club Championships was Gina Heyn who won all 14 events in the under 25-age-group, breaking every championship record in the process.

The Speedo League London Division One fixtures took the club to Harlow, Edmonton and Hemel Hempstead for galas. The swimmers more than showed how much they have improved this year and a mid table finish ensures the club continues to stay amongst London's swimming elite.

The Masters section has also gone from strength to strength and this was reflected at the Masters County Championships where the club's senior swimmers finished runners-up for the third year running. The most successful swimmers of the weekend were Suzy Carr with four individual gold medals, and Adam Acland with three gold, a silver and a bronze. Sarah Martin and Caroline Hermon also struck gold for the ladies. Chris Fiddler (2), Russell Crew (2) and Dave Partridge all won gold for the men.

At the Masters Isle of Wight meet Adam Acland won five gold and four silver medals, while Dave Partridge grabbed five silver and two bronze medals. Other gold medals were won by Sarah Martin, Paul Fishwick, Suzy Carr, and Amy Bell.

At the 16th British Masters Championships at Crystal Palace Adam Acland flew the flag for Teddington. Swimming in the 25-29 age group Adam won gold in the 200m butterfly and silver in the 200m backstroke. Sarah Martin also put in some good performances in the 19-24 age group as she finished fourth in the 200m butterfly, fourth in the 200m backstroke, and fourth in the 100m backstroke.

The Masters best performance of the year was at the Inaugural Basingstoke Masters meet where the seniors pipped home club Basingstoke to the top club trophy beating 38 other clubs in the process. The success was mainly due to the efforts of Adam Acland who entered almost every event in the programme winning seven gold, five silver, and three bronze medals.
