Thomas Frank admitted that his Brentford side were ‘on it’ in their 5-0 demolition of Sheffield Wednesday.

The result ended a five-game winless run and lifted the Bees to fourth in the Championship after Nottingham Forest’s defeat on Friday night.

Josh Dasilva got the scoring under way before adding a second in the after the break while Emiliano Marcondes, Bryan Mbeumo and Tariqe Fosu all added to the rout.

Marcondes’s strike on 17 minutes was one of individual brilliance.

Picking up the ball from a poorly cleared corner, the Dane powered home a dipping long-range effort which left Wednesday goalkeeper Cameron Dawson no chance.

The 24-year-old enjoyed one of his best days in a Brentford shirt and provided an exquisite assist for the third shortly before half time, setting up Mbeumo with a through ball which split the Owls backline.

Marcondes has found it hard to break into Franks starting XI since arriving from Nordsjaelland in early 2018, but seems to have benefitted from a brief loan spell earlier this season back in his homeland with Midtjylland.

“He’s been fighting so long at this club to give the best impression of himself,” Frank said.

“He wants to play football and play for the team.

“He’s been through two big injuries and couldn’t find his level of form, the confidence his level needs.

“I’m so happy for him, it’s not only the goal today, it’s the overall presence.

“His first league goal, and what a goal, he deserves a lot of praise.

“Hopefully he’ll keep it up for the rest of the season.”

Brentford fans were also quick to praise the midfielder.
