Both sets of fans left the Cardiff City Stadium with a mutual feeling after Brentford and Cardiff played out a 2-2 draw on Saturday.
In an eventful game which saw Neil Harris’s side come from two goals down inside 20 minutes to draw level before the break, it was the man in the middle that had everyone talking.
In all the post-match assessment it was easy to forget that Junior Hoilett and Joe Ralls cancelled out Luca Racic and Bryan Mbeumo’s Bees’ strikes.
Both Harris and Thomas Frank made their feelings clear about Simon Hooper’s performance and how he interpreted a number of incidents in South Wales.
How he handled the early altercation between Will Vaulks and Christian Norgaard was a big talking point, as was the multiple penalty shouts the Bluebirds had waived away, one of which the Bees’ boss conceded was a penalty.
Hooper, who has officiated eight Premier League ties this season, had both sets of fans reeling and questioning the standard of those in ‘control’ this season.
Quite easily the worst performance I have seen from a ref this season. Absolutely shocking #ccfc #bluebirds https://t.co/2l3u7D2YV7

Didn't seem to know the rules🙈😡

Had a very erratic game, Jason. Incredibly lenient with Will Vaulks when it was still 0-2, and waved away at least one very clear Cardiff penalty shout...

Honestly I don’t claim to know every rule but the inconsistency was awful. The linesman was just as bad who clearly doesn’t understand the offside rule #shocking #fifashouldrevisestandards

Embarrassing. Again.

And I thought the ref from Tuesday was bad. Appalling standard of refereeing. Both teams/fans would agree. #CCFC #Bluebirds

Any chance @EFL of a decent ref?
Can’t blame him Glen, ref was a disgrace today #CCFC

It must also say something when both sets of fans are singing “you’re not fit to referee” #brentfordfc #ccfc

@EFL need to investigate Simon Hooper after todays abysmal display. It is impossible to be that bad unless you are doing it.on purpose. #CCFC Worst referee ever and that's an achievement after some beauties I've witnessed. #Championshit

I hate to bag referees, but Simon Hooper is having a shocker at Cardiff City Stadium today #CCFC #Bluebirds https://t.co/HjxBwFGSga

Today’s referee, Simon Hooper, has been doing Premier League matches this season. That’s the state of the game in this county, that an impotent assclown such as that could be anywhere near an elite list. #BrentfordFC
— Justin(LionsAndBees) (@Lions_and_Bees) February 29, 2020
No, just a disgrace in general. Both teams had shouts for penalties denied (brentford for handball, cardiff for trip). Vaulks should've seen red for violent conduct but not even a yellow. Plenty of fouls missed. Throws wrong way. Corners given when goal kicks. He was useless
