Brentford's 2-1 defeat at Luton Town on Tuesday night came as a surprise to most.
A 7-0 thrashing at Griffin Park in the reverse fixture had most Bees' fans expecting Thomas Frank's outfit would end a three game winless run.
Shandon Baptiste's own goal and Martin Cranie's strike before the break however meant Graeme Jones's side picked up an invaluable three points despite Ollie Watkins's late consolation.
As the Hatters were lifted from the foot of the table, the Bees slipped to fifth, six points behind Leeds in second who have a game in hand, and just three ahead of Bristol City in seventh.
The almost nailed-on play-off spot is now not looking a certainty as they head to Cardiff City on Saturday.
Brentford fans took social media to air their thoughts of their plight following the defeat, raising questions over team selecton, especially Frank's decision to play three at the back, despite having only one bonafide centreback in the line-up.
Why are Norgaard and Dalsgaard playing centre back when we have Racic (a CB) on the bench??! Too much change #BrentfordFC

Automatics well and truly gone. Only battle left is playoffs. And as proved many times this year and in past playoff campaigns, we are big game bottlers. Really want us to do something special, but tonight has made me lose all faith in these players.#brentfordfc

Might give up Brentford for lent, get my hopes up every year only to let me down and get me depressed.😭#brentfordfc

A bit of a wake up call tonight - away at Luton bottom of the table - if you get it wrong and make mistakes the other side win. The beautiful game kicks u in the nuts occasionally tonight was just that #BrentfordFC 🐝🐝

Playing 4-3-3, going well, 2 centre backs get injured, 1 centre back for. Frank says “You know what, instead of 2, let’s play 3 centre backs with only one fit, with a right back and CDM as two of the centre backs. Wonder why it all went wrong? #BrentfordFC #LUTBRE

Our delivery into the box has been absolutely woeful! #LUTBRE #BrentfordFC

What about letting Mads Bech Sørensen go out on loan too? Another central defender 😬 #BrentfordFC

Are falling apart again

Our defence has gradually gotten worse without Pontus, giving us less command over games. Take away our best ball playing midfielder and we look a shadow of ourselves. Still not a reason to play that badly against a bottom side. #BrentfordFC

Yes Luton’s timewasting was ridiculous, yes we had injuries, but that was a disgrace. Don’t make excuses, we deserved absolutely nothing tonight. They wanted it more. We were absolutely awful.#brentfordfc #LUTBRE

Last few games we have proper lost our mojo 🤯 #brentfordfc ... also the amount of times we didn’t beat the first man on set pieces ⚰️
— Ryan O'Leary (@RyanO_Leary) February 25, 2020
Absolute shite. No confidence. Wrong personnel and starting with a back 3 with one fit centre half was criminal. Injuries absolutely killing us #BrentfordFC

Obviously Pontus Jansson is massive, but I said it when people wanted him dropped, Mathias Jensen is so important. His ability to control the game and pick a pass is so important. Really missed him in midfield, need the other midfielders to step up until he’s back.#BrentfordFC
