AFC Wimbledon have announced they have received over 80 applicants for the managerial role following Neal Ardley’s departure last week.
On a run of eight straight league defeats resulting in the Dons sitting one from bottom in League One, Ardley and his assistant Neil Cox left the club by mutual consent a week ago.

Simon Bassey and Steven Reid managed the team for the 2-1 defeat at Doncaster at the weekend and will continue to take charge until a permanent replacement has been appointed.
The club have said they are holding preliminary interviews with suitable applicants in the next few days.

Touted contenders for the role at these early stages are Wally Downes, Lee Clark, Tim Sherwood, Brian McDermott and Ian Holloway.
One name that won’t be taking charge at The Cherry Red Records Stadium is that of Justin Edniburgh. The Leyton Orient manager ruled himself out of the running declaring he’s happy at the O’s.
Regardless who is appointed the Wombles will be hoping to break their losing streak when Southend United visit on Saturday.
