Kew Gardens’ main gate has been restored and renamed Elizabeth Gate in honour of the Queen, to mark her diamond jubilee year.
This means both of Kew’s main visitor entrances are named after the two monarchs to enjoy a diamond jubilee.
Princess Alexandra unveiled a dedication stone last week and planted a sidney pearce – a tree propagated in Kew’s tropical nursery.
