A spooky series of gothic film screenings launch at St Mary’s University this month to coincide with a new postgraduate course in gothic studies.

St Mary’s has teamed up with Strawberry Hill House - the former home of literary gothic Horace Walpole - to present the films from September 25 at the university’s Strawberry Hill Campus.

Some of the most well-known ghoulish greats will be on offer, including Frankenstein, Night of the Living Dead and Sleepy Hollow.

Claire Leighton, from Strawberry Hill House, said: “Horace Walpole wrote the first gothic novel at Strawberry Hill House and it has long been the home of gothic literature, so it seemed a great idea to run a series of gothic films.

“We thought it was a good opportunity to work with St Mary’s.”

The screenings will kick-off with Castle of Otranto on September 25, which will include a special tour of the house. The tour will begin at 6.30pm, meeting at Horseshoe Drive, with an introductory talk for the screening at 7.45pm.

Screenings will take place each Tuesday from 7.45pm until December 4. There will be another chance to have a tour of the house before the screening on October 30.

Tickets are £5 or £25 for the season and £4 or £20 for concessions.
