Spending three months sat in a legendary jazz venue sketching musicians as they played their hearts out has been a labour of love for one keen street artist.

Alban Low has documented the performances of more than 50 musicians in the past few months as they took to the stage at the Bull’s Head, Barnes, and the images are now set to go on show at the venue this month.

Low says: “I work from the live performance, never photographs, because it’s important to me that the themes of the music are reflected in the rhythm of the drawing.”

With support from the owners of the Bull’s Head, Low created the series of vibrant images while hanging out at the venue’s Yamaha Music Room.

Featuring the images of famous faces such as Peter King, Alan Barnes and Derek Nash, the Bull’s Eye exhibition is a chance to relive a range of intimate musical performances in a visual rather than an aural way.

Bull’s Eye at the Yamaha Jazz Room, the Bull’s Head, Barnes SW13 9PY, from Tuesday, March 27. Opening night starts at 6.30pm and is followed by a free concert by the Paul Jordanous Ensemble.
