The Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations came to Richmond early at the weekend.
Richmond’s chamber choir Cantanti Camerati performed a preview of concert For Queen and Country for former service men and women living in the Royal Star and Garter care home, ahead of the opening of the show on Friday, March 9, and Saturday, March 10.
Cantanti Camerati’s For Queen and Country will be shown at Twickenham’s York House in celebration of the jubilee, and as part of a programme of music reflecting the spirit of hope and renewal surrounding Elizabeth II taking the throne in 1952.
Geoffrey Bowyer will direct the orchestra as they perform songs about kings and queens of England.
Music will include a rendition of Pastime With Good Company, written by Henry VIII for his first wife Catherine of Aragon and performed by the choir with Tudor accompaniment, music-hall song ‘I’m Henery the Eighth, I am’, performed by Andrew Sparkes, and last Night of the Proms anthems such as Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory.
Tickets for the performances at Clarendon Hall, York House, cost £10 on the door. Call 020 8898 8020 to book.
