Tangley Hall will officially re-open this week as a new family centre, following an £80,000 refurbishment.

Residents can visit the centre on Wednesday, March 7, to see the new facilities and take part in family activities.

On the day, people can also learn about a project to decorate the building’s exterior with artwork created by the community under the direction of an artist appointed by Orleans House Gallery.

There will also be children’s activities throughout the day, including balloon modelling, face painting and a petting zoo.

The council’s cabinet member for education, youth and children’s services, Councillor Christine Percival, said: “I’m very pleased the council has been able to bring the former Tangley Hall building back into use to help another important section of our community.

“It has been transformed into a welcoming home from home where parents and children can enjoy time together and receive professional support to ensure their children are healthy and developing well. The services and professional support on offer are hugely beneficial to local families.”

The centre has been open since the beginning of January, but the official opening will allow residents to see the facilities, which include a health room that has been set up for midwives and other medical professionals to use, and a play room designed for babies and young children.

The centre will be open from 2pm to 4pm with Coun Percival officially opening the centre at 2.30pm.
