A burst water main in Hounslow led to flooding in surrounding areas including St Margarets and Teddington today.
The pipe, in London Road, burst at 6am resulting in flooding, water shortages and a road closure between Syon Lane and Bush Corner.
Thames Water is trying to fix the 30in rupture but warned water supplies may continue to be interrupted while work was under way.
A spokeswoman said: "We are really sorry to all the customers affected by this incident.
"We are working as quickly as possible to restore customers' supplies but repairing this burst isn't an easy task. This is a strategic main that serves thousands of people. "Our event support team is on site giving advice to affected customers and letters will shortly be delivered to affected properties explaining the situation."
