In the week a Hampton hospice marked the fifth birthday of its care facility it has confirmed it will merge with another children’s care organisation.
The Shooting Star Children’s Hospice yesterday celebrated the fifth anniversary since its home, in The Avenue, opened.
And earlier this week it confirmed detailed discussions with Chase (Children's Hospice Association South East) about a merger had been successful.
Legal and regulatory formalities still need to be completed but it is anticipated the merger will be completed by the end of the year and Shooting Star Chase will be born.
David King, chief executive of Chase, who will be appointed chief executive of the new organisation, said: “The work undertaken has confirmed to both boards that a merger is the best way forward and is a fantastic opportunity to build on the great work of Shooting Star and Chase.
“The merger means we can continue to keep our promise to families to offer the best service possible now and into the future.”
Both charities currently provide care for terminally ill children in overlapping geographical areas across south-west London and north Surrey, supporting more than 500 families.
Shooting Star confirmed there will be no changes to staff and there was no suggestion of any doubt over the future of Shooting Star House.
