Residents are to find it easier to have their say on matters that affect them after a new web page was launched by Richmond Council.
The authority now has a consultation finder – richmond.gov.uk/council_consultations – and all ongoing issues where Richmond Council wants to hear from residents will be listed.
It comes days after new Prime Minister David Cameron outlined his vision for a “Big Society” which included a pledge to “empower communities".
Councillor Pamela Fleming, Richmond Council's cabinet member for community development, said: “The Big Society starts with listening. This administration is committed to the Prime Minister’s vision, that is why we have promised to listen to people before making major decisions.
“The ‘town hall knows best’ philosophy is definitely over and has to be replaced with a new approach to consulting and engaging communities.
“This is an approach that enables communities not only to influence decisions, but also to take charge of things that matter to them. “This new consultation finder is one small way that we can enable residents to have their say on issues that matter to them.”
The council has also set up a new section on its website to help businesses find grants and other support from European, national, regional and local sources.
The page will be updated regularly and will also be available from Richmond Chamber of Commerce.
Coun Fleming said there were more than 25 different funding streams business could make use of.
