The wild side of Osterley Park has been captured in a series of art works.

Property administrator Catherine Beazley is showing a collection of 40 pieces of her original works for the first time at the exhibition next month.

She said: “I’m a very keen naturalist, and passionate about our native species, so I’ve been spoilt for choice when it came to painting some of Osterley’s more secretive inhabitants.”

They feature one of the park’s resident woodpeckers, Stanley, and a female mandarin duck who alerted wardens that her five newly hatched ducklings had fallen into a drain and needed rescuing.

The exhibition will run between 1pm and 4pm in the Garden Gallery at Osterley Park, in Isleworth, from August 4 to August 15 .

Butterfly rescue

Gardeners will be able to discover which flowers and shrubs to plant to attract butterflies.

Osterley Garden Centre will be running displays and giveaways and promoting ways to stop the decline of butterflies as part of save our butterflies week starting on July 24.

The garden centre is also supporting the Butterfly Conservation’s nationwide survey, butterfly count.

Manager Sarah Webb said: “Butterflies react very quickly to change in their environment, which makes them excellent biodiversity indicators. Butterfly declines are an early warning for other wildlife.

“The count will also identify trends in species that will help plan how to protect butterflies from extinction as well as understand the effect of climate change on wildlife.”
