Shene School has also been honoring its students with what could be their last annual speech day and awards ceremony before becoming an academy.
Last Thursday’s ceremony saw more than 100 proud students pick up awards for their contributions to subjects such as maths, geography and art.
Two of the school’s musical talents also performed for the audience with year 9’s Snezhana Karemesheva singing Macavity and year 8’s Faye Hahlo playing Toccata on the piano.
Another highlight of the evening was the presentation of the first Jack Gray maths award in honour of the tutor who died in December.
Mr Gray’s daughter, Deborah Neale, presented the award to key stage 4 pupil Fatma Nassor. Klarisa Kulicic also won the Jack Gray award but was not able to be there on the night. Mrs Neale said: “He just wanted them to love maths – it was his world.”
