This was the moment a delivery driver found himself teetering dangerously near the river edge when the back wheel of his van slipped off a boat ramp.

The vehicle, which had just delivered an ice machine to the White Cross pub, on Richmond riverside, was watched by passersby as it tottered over the edge of a boat ramp for about an hour yesterday lunchtime.

The van, one of Berkshire's Arrow self-drive fleet, had become precariously positioned after it reversed and the back wheel slipped losing the boat ramp.

An eyewitness said the van was stranded while the driver waited for a tow truck to free it but did not fall into the water.
