A NEW police chief is to take command in Richmond next week, as the current commander moves from fighting the borough's criminals to tackling international crime.
Ch Supt Richard Gargini, who has led the borough's police for over two years, is to join the Serious Crime Directorate at Scotland Yard. He will lead on the co-ordination of international crime for the commissioner.
In his final report to the Police Community and Consultative Group, Ch Supt Gargini said: "I look back on this command with great pride and satisfaction.
"I have enjoyed being part of the team which has delivered many successes including the implementation of a healthier shift pattern for our police officers and police staff, outstanding performance resulting in a substantial reduction in the volume of crime and the strengthening of relationships with our communities and partners."
He will be replaced by Ch Supt Ian Edwards, who was previously based in the borough of Camden.
Introducing the new commander at his final appearance at the PCCG meeting at York House on Tuesday, Ch Supt Gargini said: "I have total confidence in Ian. All of the problems which I can see, he sees them in the same light as I see them. It should be a seamless transition."
