BT has awarded the Chiswick based IAM Fleet, the commercial training division of the Institute of Advanced Motorists, a three-year contract to provide occupational road risk training for BT drivers classified as high risk'.
Each year it is anticipated that up to 1,500 drivers will participate in the bespoke programme, which involves both interactive workshops and on-road assessment and tuition.
The half-day workshops have been designed to focus on risk and raise driver awareness of the dangers they face in today's driving conditions. IAM Fleet is delivering the workshops at locations to suit BT, in an inclusive and active environment to promote enthusiasm and stimulate thought about assessing risk on the road.
Over 50 candidates participated in the first session, which took place in Dartford, Essex, during January 2004.
Within three weeks of taking part in the interactive workshop, candidates are then required to participate in a half-day, on-road training session.
The session aims to build on the issues raised in the workshop, allowing drivers to put their increased level of risk awareness into practice, to help minimise their own exposure to danger on the road.
IAM Fleet is the winner of the 2003 Fleet Excellence Award and operates a management system that complies with the requirements of ISO9001.
