A DECISION on an additional two buildings at Chiswick Business Park has yet to be made following a Council committee meeting this week.

The Sustainable Development Committee, chaired by Cllr Mohinder Gill, met on Tuesday night to comment on reports for two nine and twelve-storey buildings to be built on the site off Chiswick High Road. The site, formerly Chiswick Busworks, already has six four-storey structures on it and was originally granted planning permission in 1991 for a total of 11 buildings.

Planning permission is being sought because developers want to override original plans for a single eight-storey building with the two new proposed ones, resulting in a 28 per cent increase in floor space being taken up.

Residents are concerned that these larger mini skyscrapers' will block out sunlight and lead to noise and artificial light pollution.

Terry Thorn, chairman of the West Chiswick and Gunnersbury Society, attended the meeting. He said: "We object to the scale and height of the new buildings but we are not against the development as a whole. We were happy with their original plans."

Mr Thorn and the members of the WCG society are frustrated that local opinion does not seem to be being considered. He added: "Along with the Chiswick West development, the impact on this area could be horrendous. We feel that they should really consult with local community groups."

Reports on the glass and steel buildings suggest that an additional 1,900 jobs will be brought to the area. However, the council committee decided that they did not wish to comment on the plans at the meeting. New reports will have to be drawn up and the final decision could take months to arrive.
