SPECSAVERS Opticians in Hounslow is urging parents and teachers to keep a close eye on children's sight in a bid to improve poor literacy levels across the UK as part of their Get Kids Reading campaign.
Store director, Ranna Rai said: "A recent government publication, Health for All Children, proclaimed that schoolchildren in Britain should only have their vision screened once during primary school. As a result Britain may soon have the worst children's vision screening system in the developed world." Figures for England and Wales show that only 84 per cent of seven year olds passed the required level of reading last year.
