DIRECTORS of the chain of Esporta health clubs, one of which is in Chiswick, have reported like for like growth of 30 per cent for the month of February in its UK racquets clubs.
Overall the company achieved 17 per cent growth in its 61 UK businesses.
CEO Neil Gillis attributes this exceptional upturn in performance to the company's approach to managing its clubs. Since Gillis took on the under performing health club operator six months ago he has stripped out administrative controls and restrictions on the general managers and given them a free hand to operate each business.
A number of new managers have been recruited to the racquets clubs from outside the industry in line with Gillis' strategy to bring a fresher approach to the sector.
Commenting on the results Gillis said: "Our strategy for growth is beginning to take effect and we are seeing the benefit of increased autonomy."
