PUPILS at a Hounslow school are finding their lessons are much more engaging with the help of the latest whiteboards and classroom technology.
Alexandra Junior School, on Denbigh Road, has acquired three new interactive whiteboards, digital projectors and Internet enabled computers for all its Year Five classrooms, purchased with money from local community fund-raising activities.
Events over the past few years, including the annual summer fair and school discos, have accumulated funds of over £9,000 and allowed the school to bring forward its planned introduction of the cutting edge items.
The equipment allows teachers to deliver interactive lessons; utilising video clips, the Internet, colour visuals and traditional blackboard skills at the same time.
Pupils are also able to manipulate text, objects and calculations when called to the front of the class.
Headteacher Heather Sullivan said: "We have a high proportion of children who have English as an additional language. The interactive whiteboards provide them with the visual and physical stimulation they need."
And Peter Dunmall, deputy headteacher and star of the Hounslow teacher's whiteboard training video, said: "Teachers can now better demonstrate and model abstract concepts to enhance children's learning. Children are able to interact and truly engage with the teacher and the subject being taught."
