BRENTFORD are backing manager Wally Downes to save them from relegation by making money available to him to bring in one or two more players.

Director John McGlashan revealed: "We will find money from somewhere for new blood to ensure Wally can keep us in the Second Division."

Downes said: "It's good to know we can bring in one or two players before the transfer deadline on the third Thursday of this month."

Meanwhile, Downes says he will stick with rookie keeper Stuart Nelson for Saturday's tough league visit to Swindon (3pm) despite his sending off in his debut at Brighton on Tuesday.

Downes comments: "Stuart did well until making an error of judgement which cost him his dismissal. I left Alan Julian out because he and the defence could have done better. He needed to come out of the firing line."

Stephen Hunt is unlikely to have recovered from a groin injury to face Swindon but should be ready for the next home game against Stockport County on Saturday March 13 when Brentford are slashing admission prices to just £5 for adults, with juniors admitted for £1.

The initiative is intended to win back missing fans after only 4,478 watched the defeat by Notts County last Saturday.A dreadful run of just one win in 16 league games has seen Brentford drop to 20th place, and are only kept out of the relegation places by goal
