A 16-year-old boy suffered two broken legs while being pursued by police in Hounslow.
Officers were patrolling on Lampton Road in Hounslow when they saw a boy on a bike acting suspiciously. The boy got off his bicycle and ran away.
The officers, who were in a marked Ford Transit, searched the area and saw the boy running through nearby Lampton Park. Officers pulled the van alongside him and asked him to stop. He continued running from the officers who followed him through the park in the van.
As the boy reached the park’s exit onto Harte Road he was in collision with the van. An ambulance was called and he was taken to hospital, where he was treated for two broken legs. He has since been discharged from hospital.
The incident, which happened on August 24, was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) which is managing an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service’s Directorate of Professional Standards to establish the circumstances of the incident. The IPCC has appealed for witnesses to come forward.
IPCC Commissioner for London, Deborah Glass, said: “The investigation into this case is progressing but we do still need to speak to anybody who witnessed any part of this incident. At 3pm on a summer’s afternoon, I’m sure there will have been many people in Lampton Park and I am asking anybody who was there and who has any information they think may help, to call 0208 785 8819.”
