A walk-in thief drove off with a £1,000 projector at Cranford but his car number was taken and he was later arrested.
Ranjit Binder, aged 22, of Pears Road, Hounslow, admitted the charge and was threatened with prison by District Judge Stephen Day.
Prosecuting, John Herratty, said that at 2pm on December 16 last year, Bhinder and another man went into Munsters MSC Ltd, Cranford, into a committee room and took the overhead projector.
Police were advised and stopped Bhinder in his car and he admitted what had happened.
Mr Day was told that all Bhinder's convictions were drug related and asked for reports.
Mr Day said he would need reports before sentence and remanded him in custody for three weeks.
