TRAFFIC chaos was caused last week, after a youth, who had not been allowed to get off a bus, attacked the bus driver by throwing a brick through his window.

The incident happened on Thursday February 26, at around 2.15pm, as the H28 bus was travelling from Tesco's in Osterley towards Western International Market.

When the driver reached the top of Wood Lane by the junction with the Great West Road, a youth asked to get off the bus, even though the bus was not at a designated stop. The bus driver refused to open the doors but the man walked to the back of the bus and opened the rear doors manually.

The youth jumped off the bus, crossed the road, picked up a brick and hurled it at the driver's window. It smashed the window and forced the bus to terminate its journey, where it subsequently caused traffic chaos for three hours.

Police were quickly on the scene. The driver was a little shaken but otherwise unhurt and returned to work the following day. There were no other injuries to any of the passengers.

Stephen Harris, Operations Manager for Tellings Golden Miller, which runs the H28 commented: "This is becoming a regular occurrence in certain areas, although this is the first time in this area. It happens at least once a week in other areas."

He added: "We are working with the specialist police unit at TFL to resolve these type of issues on all of our routes.

"Fortunately, to date no one has yet been hurt by these incidences but it is only a matter of time before something more serious results from these actions.

"It is important for members of the public to inform police when they witness any of this type of anti social behaviour.

"If anyone saw or heard anything regarding this incident please contact Hounslow police station."
