The former housekeeper of Baroness Scotland has been arrested and questioned over her right to be in Britain.
Tongan cleaner Loloahi Tapui, 27, and her husband were interviewed by Border Agency staff on Wednesday and released on bail pending an investigation into her immigration status.
Lady Scotland, who lives in Chiswick, was fined £5,000 after she admitted she did not photocopy documents when she employed Miss Tapui six months ago.
The Attorney General has claimed she went to great lengths to verify Miss Tapui’s right to work in Britain.
However, her claims have been contradicted by suggestions the Tongan never produced her passport, even though Lady Scotland said she had seen it, The Daily Mail reported today.
A spokesman for the UK Border Agency said: “We can confirm a woman and a man were arrested and questioned by UK Border Agency officers on September 23 for immigration offences in relation to an ongoing investigation.”
The baroness could be set for further embarrassing revelations after it was reported today that Miss Tapui has turned to publicist Max Clifford for advice.
