A woman slapped with a temporary antisocial behaviour order (Asbo) after kicking a police officer in the chest had it extended for two months.

Jane Press, 41, was given the interim order at Richmond Magistrates’ Court after being convicted of kicking an officer, and was told not to be drunk in a public place or engage in behaviour likely to cause embarrassment, harm or distress to another person.

Press, who lived in Hammond Close, Hampton, until earlier this week, was back at court on Wednesday for a review of the order.

The court heard police had been called to Press’ address numerous times over the past few years.

PC Richard Collis, formerly of Hampton safer neighbourhood team, said she had been arrested for assaulting a female police officer and a member of the public in September 2008, and officers were regularly called to complaints of her shouting abuse from her flat.

Jackie Franks, prosecuting, asked the court to extend the order until November 23, so Press’ progress could be judged.

She said: “The defendant seems to be taking steps to help herself.

“There has been an issue over where she used to live but she moved from that address.

“The crown are asking for time to see how she progresses and how she settles down.”

Natasha Knight, from the probation service, said: “She realises there are some issues with alcohol and is trying to address them, she is taking steps towards being in control.

“She is in the process of making a self referral to Richmond drug and alcohol team.”

Ms Franks added: “If she repeats her previous behaviour the crown will seek a full Asbo, if not, we will not.”

James Onalaja, Press’ solicitor, said: “She is happy where she is and feels a line has been drawn under the incidents at her old address.

“She also received a letter from nine young people apologising for their behaviour to her.

“She has to demonstrate the problems were linked to her old address, not to her.”

Peter Bullett, chairman of the bench, approved the two-month temporary order and told Press to return on November 23.
