Three more roads are to be included in the St Margarets controlled parking zone (CPZ) and residents of two more are to get another chance to opt in.

At a recent transport consultative group, Councillor David Trigg, cabinet member for traffic, transport and parking, received an update on the zone and agreed to formally advertise an extension to include Moormead Road, Cole Park View, Sidney Road, Kenley Road and Godstone Road.

But he insisted residents of Kenley Road and Godstone Road would not be included unless they indicated they wanted to be.

The CPZ was extended in October 2008 to include Bridge Road and Winchester Road and the authority promised to review it six months after introduction and further consult residents.

During the consultation residents of Bridge Road and Winchester Road voted to keep the zone – as more than 60 per cent indicated they were very satisfied – and those in Cole Park View, Moormead Road and Sidney Road voted to join.

Residents of The Grove, in St Margarets Road, also voted to be included, and Coun Trigg said they would get the chance to buy permits from now on.

He also decided to include Kenley Road and Godstone Road in a traffic order despite them voting against the zone and stating they still wanted to be left out if surrounding roads were included.

Residents speaking at the meeting called for the zone to be scrapped altogether and said it had affected businesses in the area.

Nicola Young, of Kenley Road, said: “This whole area should be looked at as an area rather than road by road. There are more houses than places [to park] in my street.”

Coun Trigg said the area had been looked at as a whole and on a road-by-road basis, and said his plan was to address both arguments.
