A Richmond church that has served the community since 1850 and which still attracts 500 people every Sunday has celebrated its £3m redevelopment.
A thanksgiving service and lunch were held at Duke Street Church this month to toast the successful completion of a 17-month project that has provided nine new public rooms, new offices to accommodate a growing staff team, two state-of-the-art kitchens, and a nursery with a garden area for children to play in.
Senior minister at the independent, evangelical church, Liam Goligher said: “We're excited that our redevelopment project is complete.
“Duke Street Church has a long tradition of serving the people of Richmond and we're looking forward to welcoming the community into our new facilities so that people can enjoy the many events and activities we offer.”
The church’s current home was constructed in 1962 and has since offered numerous activities to the community including playgroups for preschoolers, meals for the homeless, an after school children's club, Friday night youth group and a cafe and it hosts other organisations' events such as Richmond Local History Society.
