A Hampton Court hotel is marking its 300th anniversary by holding a day of fundraising activities.
Kings Arms Hotel – situated next to the Lion gate entrance to Bushy Park and owned by Sarah Murdock and Simon Bailey – has organised a day of events on Saturday, May 30, called the 1709 Themed Day of Fun.
The day will include highwaymen, soldiers and other characters from 1709 and visitors can get involved or sit back and sample the atmosphere of Hampton Court as it was 300 years ago with authentic 18th century food and drink, a hog roast, fancy dress, face painting, storytelling, morris dancers and a pub quiz.
All money raised on the day will go to the Shooting Star Children’s Hospice – based in the Avenue, Hampton – which cares for terminally ill children and their families.
Historic Royal Palaces, which manages the palace, and Royal Parks, which manages Bushy Park, are involved.
Mr Bailey said: “We wanted to do something special to mark this significant milestone in the hotel’s history and at the same time support Shooting Star.”
David Packer, a warder at the palace, said: “We hope to bring some of the skill and experience from the celebration of Henry VIII’s 500th anniversary to help the King’s Arms celebrate their 300th and make money for a truly worthwhile cause.
“Richard Evans, who is Henry VIII at the palace will be appearing, but in a much less exalted guise.”
Events start at 11am and will go on all day.
