Hounslow Council is to invest £1.8m in a new CCTV system.
The system will be shared by the council and police, and will bring together existing CCTV systems to ensure coverage is heightened across the borough.
It is hoped the new system will reduce antisocial behaviour, robbery and car crime and environmental crimes such as fly-tipping and graffiti.
A purpose-built community safety control room will also be established, which will be staffed round the clock.
Council leader Peter Thompson said: “We are designing an element of portability to allow us to put CCTV cameras into areas for a short period in response to specific incidents or concerns to reassure residents as well as catch criminal activity in new and temporary antisocial behaviour hot spots.”
