A caterer turned police officer whose quick-thinking saved a Hounslow landlord’s life is up for a police award.

PC Jason Hudson, 38, will receive a borough commander commendation for his part in saving the landlord’s life in May last year.

PC Hudson, who was praised for his professionalism after finding the man hanging from a loft beam, will pick up the award alongside colleagues PC Tony Williams, 39, and PC Ben Coleman on June 4.

He said: “The landlord had been a victim of fraud and was about to lose his pub, to lose everything.

“The bailiffs were about to come round and repossess the pub, so he decided to end it all.

“When we got there he was standing on top of a ladder with a rope around his neck when he suddenly jumped off and was swinging from the rope.

“Myself and Tony quickly raced forward to hold him up and I eventually cut the noose off and Ben, who is a police medic, gave him medical attention.

“We didn’t really think about it at the time, we just jumped forward and did our job.

“We took the guy to hospital and he was just so apologetic and embarrassed.

“He kept saying sorry for wasting our time.

“You don’t really think about it at the time, you just get on with your job.

“I was quite surprised when I found out I could be getting a commendation, but quite happy at the same time.”

PC Hudson, who changed career paths from catering to become a police officer, said he would be taking his parents and his girlfriend to the ceremony in Brentford.

He said: “I never always wanted to become a police officer but one day I just decided to apply.

“It’s nice for my family because they don’t often get to hear about what we do.”
