Do you want what the way in which you live to be decided by the European Parliament?
Having received a voting card for the forthcoming European election, I had no idea who the candidates where so decided to find out.
The website http://www.writetothem.com, enables you to contact councillors, MPs, MEPs, MSPs very easily. It's no wonder many people are so disillusioned with politics and politicans and in light of the recent expenses scandal, trust in many of those publically elected to serve is at an all time low. It is vital, therefore, that every possible vote is cast in the European elections, to ensure the voices of the British people are heard.
At the time of writing, I have had the following three responses and I would encourage you to check out their websites for more information so you can make an informed decision.
LABOUR “thank you for your letter to Mary Honeyball MEP. Can I ask you to take a look at her blogsite on the link below which will give you a good overview of her opinions and activities: http://thehoneyballbuzz.com I hope this will help you to support Ms Honeyball to get re-elected by voting for the labour list in the June 4th ballot”
CONSERVATIVES: “Dr Tannock is head of the Conservative Party list and is followed in numerical order by Syed Kamall, Marina Yannoukadakis, JP Floru, Warwick Lightfoot, Graham Postles, Ian Twinn and Alison Sproule. He cannot comment on who is selected for the other party lists. Conservatives are the only mainstream party committed to a referendum on the Treaty of Lisbon if it is not yet ratified and if we are elected to government next year, and let the people of Britain decide if they want more powers transferred to Brussels. For the past 5 years your 3 Conservative MEPs have been working hard to ensure the promotion and protection of the interests of London and Britain in Europe and not the other way round. The European Union looms ever larger in our lives, whether we like it or not. David Cameron is committed to positioning Britain at the heart of the EU as a leading voice for reform. His vision for the EU is one of achieving real benefits – on fighting global climate change, increasing global economic competitiveness and fighting global poverty. Only Conservatives have the answers to the challenges faced by the EU. We are confident that we can ensure that the European Commission does less and does it better and we will fight for reform and more transparency within the EU. MEPs are responsible for co decision i.e. amending and rejecting if necessary 80% of all EU law which in turn is responsible for 60% of UK law. This affects your life in areas such as regulating the quality of the air you breathe, the water you drink and the food you eat, to your right to be protected against being ripped off in your mobile phone bills abroad in the EU and the right for instance to be treated abroad with the NHS paying for it. These are just a very few recent examples of where the many EU laws which MEPs work on impact on your daily life. You will be receiving during the campaign Freepost literature spelling out in greater detail what Conservatives have achieved and what Conservatives will be doing in future. Dr Tannock has his own website www.charlestannock.com where his own work as Foreign affairs Spokesman is described in more detail.”
UKIP “Thank you for your email regarding the forthcoming European elections. You will find UKIP’s policies on our website at http://www.ukip.org/home and further information on my work as an MEP can be found at http://www.gerardbatten.co.uk/index.php I hope this information is of interest to you and useful in the run up to the elections. If you require any further information please do not hesitate to get in contact.” Gerard Batten MEP
I have not received a response from the Liberal Democrats or any other parties but will post these if and when they are received.
