One Brentford fan was so desperate not to miss out on his team’s promotion party today he is flying in from Los Angeles to be at the game.
Oscar Thompson, 45, moved to LA 14 years ago when he won a green card – the identification card giving a person permanent residence in the US – in a lottery but could not bear to miss out on seeing Brentford lift the League Two championship trophy.
The former Isleworth resident booked his flights and match tickets on Monday.
He said: “I will be in the UK for four days, enough time for the game and to see my family and a few mates.
“I’ll be attending the game with my brother Al who is also a lifelong fan.
“I’m coming back because Brentford are champions and I have to be there too see them get the trophy. Being Brentford, we don’t win to much in the way of silverware.”
Mr Thompson, who works in the film industry, said he went to his first game in the early 1970s with his father.
He said: “I come back to London every three years or so and I always try and get to a Brentford game.
“The last game I got to was the [League One] play-off final in Cardiff [when Brentford lost to Stoke City].
“At home in LA I stay in touch by way of my brother and the internet.
“My brother calls me from the games so I can hear the singing.”
