Hounslow Council is to hold a special event for Brentford FC after the team clinch the Coca-Cola League Two title with a win at Darlington.

The Bees guaranteed both promotion to League One and the championship trophy with one game of the season to go after a 3-1 win and more than 1,300 supporters made the 500 mile round trip to see them do it.

More than 250 of those fans then returned to the club's Griffin Park ground, in Braemar Road, to welcome their heroes home and partied long into the night to celebrate their success.

Bees' boss Andy Scott, his assistant Terry Bullivant and captain Alan Bennett were among those greeted by the joyous fans as the team coach arrived home just after midnight.

Supporters lined Braemar Road into the early hours of Sunday morning to celebrate with the players and management.

The Bees will be presented with the trophy at their final game of the season, against Luton town at Griffin Park on Saturday, May 2.

Hounslow Council put on a civic reception for Brentford's 1991-92 team which won the old Division Three championship and a spokesman confirmed it would be inviting the team down for a repeat performance.

"We will be inviting the champions along to an event to celebrate their success, and for now, we want to add to the congratulations they so richly deserved," he continued.

"Winning promotion back to League One is one thing, but to go up as champions shows the quality of the team, and their manager.

"Next weekend's game against Luton will be a fantastic chance for all the fans to show their appreciation to the team Andy Scott has put together, and to see the trophy lifted at Griffin Park."
