A market trader who was found with thousands of fake DVDs on his stall is behind bars.
Sayad Quadri, a trader at Hounslow West Market, was sentenced to four months in prison, after being prosecuted by Hounslow Council.
An inspection of Quadri’s stall by trading standards officers found more than 2,000 counterfeit DVDs.
These included 50 copies of Bollywood films Om Shanti Om and Saawariya, as well as a number of unclassified adult titles.
Quadri, 56, of Harlech Gardens, Heston, pleaded guilty to 13 offences of being in possession of, and offering to supply, counterfeit DVDs, earlier this month, at Isleworth Crown Court.
He was sentenced to four months in prison per charge to run concurrently.
Councillor Barbara Reid, the council’s lead member for environment and planning, said: “I trust that this prison sentence will send out a clear message to producers and sellers of counterfeit goods.
“Selling them constitutes unfair competition to honest traders who are trying to earn an honest living, particularly during a time of recession.”
