Three people have been taken to hospital after a crash in London, where a car crashed into a restaurant and left one person trapped inside.

Emergency services rushed to Coventry Street near Piccadilly Circus yesterday (November 12) just before 7pm after the crash at the junction with Haymarket.

Firefighters used cutting equipment to remove a vehicle door and free the trapped individual, who was then taken to the hospital by London Ambulance Service (LAS) crews along with two additional patients.

London Ambulance Service sent three ambulance crews, an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic, and a medic in a fast-response car to the scene.

London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched to provide further support.

Three people were treated at the scene and taken to hospital, with two taken as a priority.

The incident was later handed over to the Metropolitan Police for further investigation.

Two fire engines from Soho Fire Station, two fire rescue units from Euston and Battersea, and a 32-metre turntable ladder from Soho Fire Station attended the scene.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 6:52pm today (12 November) to reports of an incident at Coventry Street, W1D.

"We sent three ambulance crews, an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic and a medic in a fast response car. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated three patients at the scene. We took all three to a major trauma centre, two as a priority."

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters attended a road traffic collision at the junction of Coventry Street and Haymarket near Piccadilly Circus yesterday (13 November).

“A vehicle collided with the front of a restaurant. Firefighters released one person who was confirmed to be trapped inside the vehicle, using cutting gear to remove one of the vehicle's doors.

“They were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews, along with two further patients.

“The Brigade was called at 6.59pm and Control Officers mobilised two fire engines from Soho Fire Station and two fire rescue units from Euston and Battersea fire stations to the scene.

“A 32-metre turntable ladder from Soho Fire Station also attended the scene.

“The incident was left in the care of the Metropolitan Police.”
