I tried a Covent Garden pizza spot where they have some of the most unusual pizza toppings.
It’s no mystery that us Londoners love a slice of pizza and recently the capital was named as the UK’s pizza capital according to research from Gozney.
So in the spirit of that, we recently visited a pizza spot that definitely had some unusual pizza toppings.
Italian starters and cocktails.
Doughnation is just a stone's throw from Covent Garden Market on Henrietta Street and offers a relaxed dining space with a selection of pizzas,Having a cursory glance of the menu we noticed quite a few unusual toppings like ‘Stuffed Mushroom Ragout’ pizza, the ‘3 Prawn Deluxe’ pizza, and the ‘Potato Peel Pizza’ with sliced potatoes and fontina cheese.
But they also had several familiar options if you don’t fancy straying out of your comfort zone, like ‘Pepperoni’, ’Margarita’, and a vegan pizza with vegan cheese.
I ended up trying the ‘Nduja Sausage’ pizza made with artisan sauce, Nduja sausage and shaved pecorino romano cheese, whilst my friend went with a more conventional option of ‘Pepperoni.’
This place definitely doesn’t scrimp on portion sizes, with a huge pizza that was bigger than a few other pizza spots in London I’ve tried, and the base was a really good classic Italian thin base.
Both were very delicious and definitely a worthy pizza to try in London.
They also had a really good selection of sauces, including a rich pesto that you could dip your pizza into, which we tried and would highly recommend.
They also had a good selection of drinks including cocktails and a selection of non-alcoholic versions.
I tried the ‘Covent Garden Fizz’, which was a play on a classic Bellini with prosecco, and I went with the Berry option although they had four to choose from, whilst my friend opted for the ‘Il Botanista Spritz‘ with Aperol, gin, St Germain, fresh mint and prosecco.
food arriving quickly and knowledgeable servers who were very happy to recommend some of their favourites.
The service was very good, withAs a pizza lover I can say this is somewhere I will definitely visit again the next time I find myself in Covent Garden vying for a slice of pizza.
If you fancy trying it out for yourself and visit between 3:30pm and 6:30pm on Mondays to Thursdays, you can get a pizza and pitcher of spritz for £28.
