There’s lots to do in south west London this month – ranging from a tour of a historic town hall to an annual festival with a BMX show.

To mark Heritage Open Days this month, a number of historical attractions will be opening their doors for tours and open days, allowing visitors to explore usually unseen parts of London alongside other open events like film screenings and festivals.

Starting this weekend, on Sunday (September 8) Wimbledon Common will be hosting its annual festival, packed with family events from tractor rides to a BMX show.

Following on from last year's successful event, the BMX show will be returning to the festival for another year with impressive BMX stunts, alongside a line-up of other performances ranging from falconry and horse-riding displays to a dog show in the late afternoon.

The event will also be accompanied by Morris Dancing, performed by Greensleeves Morris Men, and tractor and donkey rides on the common.

The festival will also feature reptile displays as well as stalls and vendors, and if you fancy a morning stroll you can join a nature walk on the common at 11am to learn about local wildlife you can find in the area.

Over at Richmond’s former town hall there will be a series of behind the scenes tours of the historic building dating back 130 years.

The building was first opened in 1893 and served as headquarters for Richmond Council.

Next weekend on September 14 and September 15 the building will be open, with guided tours giving visitors an insight into the behind the scenes workings of this historic Grade II listed building, which houses the Museum of Richmond along with the borough’s archives.
