A man has been arrested after a car was chased by police as it drove in the wrong direction on a road in Putney in the early hours of this morning (March 3).
Officers tried to stop a car on Beaumont Road, Wimbledon, at around 3am.
The car did not stop and instead, was described by police as driving in the wrong direction along the A3 “to avoid them”
Around 10 minutes after, the car was spotted again in Roehampton Lane and a pursuit was authorised.
A short time later, the car crashed into the front of a house in Upper Richmond Road.
The driver, a 37-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, drink driving, drug driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and driving without a licence or insurance.
No injuries were reported.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Shortly after 03:00hrs on Friday, 3 March, officers attempted to stop a car in Beaumont Road, Wimbledon.
“The car failed to stop and travelled the wrong way along the A3 to avoid the officers.
“Around 10 minutes later it was spotted again in Roehampton Lane and a pursuit was authorised.
“A short time later, the car collided with the front of a house in Upper Richmond Road.
“No injuries were reported.
“The driver, a 37-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, drink driving, drug driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and driving without a licence or insurance.”
