Fulham loanee Rob Milsom looks set to extend his stay at Griffin Park after Andy Scott admitted Brentford were in the box seat to keep him until the end of the season.
The highly rated 21-year-old made his full debut at the weekend - in the absence of the suspended Gary Smith - having appeared as a substitute in the 2-1 win at Barnet.
The window for loan signings closes on March 27 and, with Milsom's current agreement running until March 12, Scott thinks the Bees will head the queue for his signature.
"Rob has come in and done very well for us, particularly on Saturday, but one good performance does not mean we will keep him," he added. "We are keeping in touch with Fulham, but the ball is in their court.
"I would be interested in keeping him until the end of the season because we need cover in that position.
"I think we will be in a strong position to get him."
Midfielder Kevin O'Connor is still weeks from full fitness after pulling a hamstring in the 3-2 win at Mansfield Town on Fenruary 2.
Forgotten man Charlie Ide and John Mousinho are battling back from injury, but Scott has admitted he would like to have more cover in the midfield.
"Kevin is getting closer to fitness, but we are not sure how close at the moment," he added.
"Charlie and John are not quite 100 per cent match fit but they are working on it.
"We need cover there and Rob helps for the time being."
