There was not a spot of green to be seen on the pumpkins at one borough primary school, as pupils bucked the trend of disappointing crops across the country.
Constant rain has seen many pumpkins not developing their usual orange colour, but the proud gardeners at Sheen Mount Primary have produced winning specimens of the Halloween favourites.
Headteacher Elaine England said: "With climate change so high on the agenda, we're helping our children to understand about where food comes from.
"By simply growing such magnificent pumpkins and vegetables the children are really understanding about food miles and how local food helps the local community."
The pumpkins and a host of other home-grown vegetables will be given to the Vineyard Project in Richmond, a charity helping the homeless.
