FIREFIGHTERS discovered the body of a 58-year-old woman in a bedroom when they were called to a fire at a Mortlake flat.
The woman has been named as Cynthia Maxfield of Moore Close. The cause of her death is not yet known.
Twickenham fire fighters were called to the Moore Close flat at 4.17pm last Monday (15th).
When they arrived five minutes later, they found police and ambulance workers already on the scene. The fire had burnt itself out.
A 59-year-old woman, the sole occupant of the flat, was found in the bedroom where the fire is believed to have started.
The cause of the fire and the cause of the woman's death is currently under investigation.
A spokesman for Twickenham Fire Station said: "It is not known whether it was immobility or some other reason why she couldn't escape the fire.
"It is not yet known whether she died because of the fire or before the fire.
"Any more information is pending the inquest and fire investigation reports."
The last fire engine left the scene at 8.21pm.
A spokesman for Twickenham fire station said there was no smoke alarm at the property.
London Ambulance said they were called shortly after 3pm but were unable to gain access to the property for quite some time.
The fire investigation department are treating the incident as suspicious.
Coroners said that they would be carrying out an inquest to determine the cause of death and that a post mortem had been carried out but the results depend on toxicology reports.
