The Conservative's London mayoral candidate received racist hate mail today, telling him he is "not welcome in the Twickenham area."
Shaun Bailey, a member of the London assembly, posted a picture of the a letter which issues a threat in racist language.
The letter was opened by Richmond Park and North Kingston Conservatives in East Sheen on Monday.
The 48-year-old father of two has been on the receiving end of over 30 incidents of racist abuse since his selection last Autumn, according to his campaign, including being called a “coconut” and an "uncle Tom".
The letter was posted on Twitter
Responding to the incident, he said: “Racist abuse, from the left or right, is not right. We should not have to tolerate these personal attacks that poison the well of public debate.
“Politicians from diverse backgrounds like Sadiq Khan or myself are positive symbols not targets.
"I will not be intimidated from carrying my message of hope and opportunity to the people of Twickenham.
“So sorry troll… this black man will go wherever he pleases!
“I have spent a lot of time in Twickenham and I have never had a problem there.
"I won’t be intimidated by a faceless troll and I can’t wait to come back to Twickenham in two weeks for a visit.”
Twickenham Lib Dem councillor James Chard offered to buy the mayoral candidate "a pint" to make up for the incident.
He said: "I'm a Lib Dem councillor for Twickenham and can assure you that you are always very welcome here.
"If you want to give me a call next time you come through with your campaign team, I'd like to buy you a pint on behalf of the 99.99% to apologise for the 0.01%."
