A person was hit by a train between Putney and Wandsworth Town at about 1.50pm this afternoon.
A South West Trains spokesman said: “Our first thoughts are with the family of the person involved.
“Services are currently affected and we apologise for the inconvenience caused to passengers. Passengers may travel by London Underground and London buses on any reasonable route."
A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Our officers were called to Wandsworth Town railway station on Tuesday, 9 June, to reports of a person being struck by a train.
“The report came into police shortly before 1.45pm.
“Officers attended the scene alongside paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, but a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious. Officers will now look to identify the man and inform his family.
“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
All lines reopened shortly after 3.30pm.
