A memorial stone has been placed in each of the six cemeteries in which service personnel who lost their lives in World War I were laid to rest.
The headstones were installed by Richmond Council as part of a commemoration programme, 100 years since the outbreak of war, and the inscription on each one reads: "We will remember them. Those resting within this cemetery who lost their lives during the First World War."
The cemeteries are in Richmond, East Sheen, Twickenham, Teddington, Hampton and the Old Mortlake Burial Ground, and the council provided £50,000 for all WWI memorial activity this year as part of a £240,000 budget for remembrance projects in the next four years.
Council cabinet member for culture Councillor Meena Bond said: "They paid the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. It is an honour to remember them in this way.
"The council’s four-year programme of remembrance will leave a legacy for future generations so no one ever forgets the price that was paid by all involved."
