A seasonal concert titled a Christmas Truce takes place at a Hampton Hill church this weekend.
The Teddington Choral Society join forces with musical director Patrick Martin to celebrate Christmas with a special oratorio composed by Jonathan Rathbone.
Christmas Truce explores the spontaneous ceasefire on the frontline in France on Christmas Eve 1914 - the year the First World War broke out.
Taking the form of a narrative by a soldier who was there, the concert incorporates beautiful but long-forgotten carols which were sung in the trenches, poetry by Edward Thomas and the 23rd Psalm sung in both English and German.
The spirit of the evening will be lifted by the Christmas carols by Vaughan-Williams, featuring local baritone Martin Johnson and St James RC Primary School choir under the direction of Joseph Estorninho.
The concert will be dedicated to ancestors of the choir who died in the First World War, including members of the German and French, as well as British forces. Teddington Choral Society said it was pleased to be part of the WWI partnership led by the Imperial War Museum to commemorate the events of the First World War within the local community.
