Unemployed young people were given a lesson in job hunting by Twickenham MP Vince Cable last week.
Dr Cable visited a skills workshop at the St Clare’s Sainsbury’s in Hampton Hill as part of the Feeding Britain’s Future - Skills for Work month.
He met several young people who are looking for work and passed on his words of wisdom.
Dr Cable said: “Sainsbury’s is setting an excellent example of a business that puts people and development first.
“Giving young people direct, free access to expert advice from employers is a great stepping stone for those who need that first break or to give people an insight into what managers are looking for.
“The workshops have clearly met a real need and I applaud the IGD and Sainsbury’s for its partnership in the Feeding Britain’s Future initiative.”
He also spoke to Sainsbury’s staff being trained at the store to become future department managers.
Sainsbury’s group human resources director Angie Risley said: “We know from speaking to many young people that they often have a lack of confidence and, crucially, any recent experience of the workplace.
“This is where businesses like ours are really able to help.
“The skills workshops we’re running will be very useful for people, and offer practical tips for people to get the right job.”
